There’s no getting away from the fact that once we get on the journeys towards our goals, we would find that the roads to success are not smooth and straight, but rather full of ups and downs, twists and turns. Frustration easily kicks in and some of us may even give up.
Peyton Manning, the world-famous American NFL player, once said, ‘“The attitude with which we approach the situation can determine our success or failure.” So, how can we resist stalling and giving up when being stuck halfway on the winding road to success?
Last week, Talent Academy proudly presented its first-ever public seminar Peak Performance Series – Dialogue with World-Class Athletes: Revealing the Secrets to Achieving Success. Mr. Kyle Choi, the former Hong Kong Cycling Representative in London Olympic Game & the World Cycling Champion, was invited to share with participants his secrets to overcoming obstacles and defying the odds in achieving gold-medal success. He is also a motivational speaker who inspires people from all walks of life with his athleticism.
Through lively interactions and exchanges, participants were deeply inspired by how Kyle dealt with his crushing lows on his journey to world championship. With horrendous crashes and countless “bacon” (cuts and abrasions resulted from biffing) over the years, the pain and distress made him more determined that one day he would become an Olympian. In the seminar, participants also had a chance to do a mini-workout to emulate how top cyclists train hours a day to perfect their skills and maintain their phenomenal strengths and fitness. They now realize that “Tough times never last, but tough people do.”
On the winding road to success, we are no different from world-class athletes. To overcome fear of failure, we require not only sheer determination, great dedication and single-mindedness, but also motivation and encouragement from other people along the way, just like the edification from the coach.
